LSU Study proves “Its easier to work harder on Jacobs Ladder”

A study just completed at Louisiana State University has concluded with statistically significant data that Jacobs Ladder uses less RPE (Relative Perceived Exertion) while offering a greater Energy Expenditure (Calorie Burn) and lower impact on joints than a similar workout on a treadmill.

The Holy Grail

“My background is that I *hate* most exercise equipment. Most of it doesn’t seem like it’s built for human beings to exercise on. Rather, it’s more like somebody built the equipment to satisfy some mathematical model of some elliptical curve, and then said “now all we need is some people to agree to get inside of this and move against it.” Instead of helping you build a tolerance for pushing your natural abilities, most equipment requires that you build a tolerance to the use of the equipment. The Jacobs Ladder is probably the most elegant design I’ve encountered in any exercise machine, and that simplicity alone is a great selling point.… [Read More]

Stairway – Differences between Stairway and other stair climbers:

When we decided to design a stair climber three years ago, we did it because we felt like we had an opportunity to offer the same Jacobs Ladder technology in a stair machine. However, today, there are a number of stair climbers out there, some good, some not so good. The Stairway offers a self-powered, self-paced workout. Just like on Jacobs Ladder, you control your own speed. It has a lower step height than other commercial stair climbers and a lower ceiling height requirement. It has a normal 8.5 “ step with 4 stairs visible to the user. It carries a 4 Year Parts, 1 Year Labor Warranty and is a lower cost than other commercial stair machines.… [Read More]

The Race is Really with Yourself!

“What is a good workout on Jacobs Ladder or the Stairway?”. We get this question all of the time from people that have never been on a Jacobs Ladder but are interested in finding out more. Jacobs Ladder and the Stairway are really body weight exercises. The Waist Belt that you put on, does not really supply very much resistance. You are really just lifting your body weight in either a 12″ or 8″ step. So, the amount of work you are doing is dependent upon your physical size, the length of the exercise and the exercise time. Although it is fun to compare results with other people, you are really just racing against yourself.… [Read More]

How Jacobs Ladder Works

Why, when you climb higher on a Jacobs Ladder (and the Stairway), do the rungs come faster? Answer: It is the same reason that a curve ball curves and an airplane flies (GOT YOUR ATTENTION). It is called Bernouli’s Equation (LOST YOUR ATTENTION). Actually, engineers and physicists get a charge out of this and since I am one of those knuckleheads, I get a charge out of it to. Bernouli’s Equation merely says, in part, that as air molecules move faster, the pressure drops. For an airplane, the air molecules above the plane wing are forced to move faster than the ones below. The atmosphere then pushes the plane up.… [Read More]

Jacobs Ladder at the Athletic Business Conference

We exhibited at the AB Conference in San Diego this year. This has been our 10th year in a row at ABC. It was a great show, as we got to see many old friends and also met some great new friends. The Stairway was very well received as one of the very few self-powered stair climbers. Got a chance to talk to the guys from Woodway Treadmills and Pat O’Dell from Life Fitness. Looking forward to IHRSA this year again at San Diego (one of the most beautiful cities in the country) !

Why Manufacture in the USA ?

photo-4

People ask us all of the time why we manufacture all of our products in the USA, when seemingly cheaper production is available in China, Mexico, Korea, Thailand etc…  When many companies in the past 15 years have concentrated on setting up manufacturing plants or supply chains in these countries, it is good to note that not ALL manufacturing is cheaper overseas.  Concentrating on lower hourly labor rates is only part of the equation.  We concentrate on Value-Added Movement, Lean Manufacturing and Variation Reduction to remove WASTE in the manufacturing process.  For larger, complex, durable products, like Jacobs Ladder and the Stairway, manufacturing them overseas only results in higher shipping costs, higher shipping damage, longer lead times, higher inventories and higher warranty costs.  … [Read More]
